Part 2: You Cannot Balance A Lie.

The devil is a master at planting thoughts in our head that seem and sound like our own but are lies from the pit of hell. The enemy’s lies can have us so confused, that we start writing off our future, denying our potential and speaking death over our life.

We have all been and will be attacked by thoughts that don’t belong to us — nobody is immune.  Haven’t you noticed that the enemy attacks you when you’re down, tired, weak, upset or sad? The enemy uses our emotional condition to attack our spiritual position.  Our faith cannot work as long as the lie is working.

Hurtful, harmful, miserable and negative thoughts that cancel our Truth come from the enemy’s hell mail.  The enemy’s sole job is to knock us off balance, break peace, steal joy, kill hope and destroy faith in what God said with lies (James 1:8, Revelation 12:9) — and he’s good. But in order for the lie to work, we have to receive it and believe it. If we’re not careful, we can emotionally read the enemy’s hell mail as if it were the bible — and start quoting the enemy’s lies as if they were the truth.

Listen to what the Apostle Paul said: “I am afraid, however, that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may be led astray from your simple and pure devotion to Christ” (2 Corinthians 11:3).

Try this simple but powerful exercise:  Look at the sentence below in quotes and say it to yourself — don’t move your lips and don’t speak it out loud, just say it over in your mind 3 times. Go.

You didn’t say it out loud but you heard it.  You heard it without speaking it. Without moving your lips or making a sound, you said it in your voice, in your way and you recognized your voice. So we know you know the sound of your voice.

You also know the voice of God: “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me” (John 10:27).  The enemy’s lies work so well because they imitate not only our voice of reason but the voice of God as well — and when they do, our mental scale becomes unbalanced, unstable, unreliable and undermining.  It’s not always easy to distinguish the truth from a lie, the enemy does not just run in, he waits for an emotional invitation — (Matthew 8:26, James 1:13-15).

When we listen to our feelings and thoughts, there is no mistaking the devils voice for our own or God’s. The devil says, I’m not good enough, I can’t make it, I don’t have what it takes, I’m not going to make it, my life is over, I can’t forgive, I can’t move forward, it won’t work, I can’t walk alone, this is bigger than God — or any thought that contradicts God’s word.  When the devil is involved, couples can fight to be right as opposed to fight for what’s right, and a temporary setback can become a permanent breakdown.

Keeping ourselves mentally and emotionally balanced is spiritual work. We’re not experts at it but we have divine expertise to do it (Matthew 19:26, Isaiah 54:17). You know your voice and, you know God’s voice and His truth.  The only protection against a demonic attack against the mind, is the armor of God, the Truth: “Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil” (Ephesians 6:11).

Is it easy? Of course not. It doesn’t matter how long we’ve been saved or how strong we think we are, the enemy has a lie for every situation and every size Christian. Listen, we all know about the full armor but we also know that this is a faith walk, not a cake walk. When life gets overwhelming, our mind tends to respond by shutting down. When somebody leaves us, our mind tends to temporarily leave us. When all hell breaks loose, holding on to our right mind can be a struggle.  When we suffer a major loss, it puts a major strain on our joy and our hope. When we get anxious, remembering and using truth is tough. When we get knocked down or breakdown, picking our mind up can be difficult.  Hurt hurts and our mind is not iron, we feel pain, loss, anger, fear, and every emotion under the sun (Romans 7:21).

“Renewing” our mind is ongoing, it’s not an arrival or an event (Romans 12:2). Any body who says otherwise is deceived and the truth is not in them (Galatians 6:3, 1 John 1:8); Elijah was challenged, Moses was challenged, Abraham was challenged, David was challenged, Peter was challenged, every disciple ran off and left Christ, and your mind will be challenged too.  The good news is, God said that there is no mental attack or temptation that is not common to man — and He will make a way for our escape (1 Corinthians 10:13, 1 John 1:9).

When you are being mentally or emotionally attacked by the enemy, don’t shoot first and ask questions later or surround yourself with people who celebrate your attack — a friend to your weakness is an enemy to your greatness. Listen to what you’re thinking and saying, and make sure it’s your rational voice and God’s truth (2 Corinthians 13:5).  You have a destiny to fulfill and the enemy wants to keep you from it.  Your mind is the battlefield, and you have to be prepared to fight for balance — daily if necessary.  When you face the lies with boldness, and rebuke every word that cancels the truth about self and others, no devil in hell can stop you from having what God said you could have or from doing what God said you could do (James 4:7).
